Indian Summer & Chili's!

It's been quite warm here this week in southwest Germany. Yesterday I was sweating up a storm while teaching Social Studies to the 4th and 5th graders. It got so bad that I finally told them to pack up everything and ended up teaching downstairs at the indoor playground. It was a little cooler but it's hard to cool off when you're in a building w/no air conditioning. Oh well. In a few weeks I'm sure I'll be begging for weather like this!

It's been a better week this week than last week, despite the hot weather. Yesterday during Art time, one of my students, Gaby, was sitting at her desk painting and I had the XM Christian station on. I don't remember what song was playing but Gaby spoke up and said "Miss Stroud, I love this song, you know why?" and when I asked her why she responded with "Because it talks about God"!!!! I was blown away! I don't really comprehend that the kids are even paying attention to the songs being played but I guess it's getting ingrained into their heads!

Another thing that happened yesterday was during 4th and 5th Language Arts time. We started talking a/b things we missed in our home countries. One of my American students, Ashleigh, mentioned that she missed Chili's tostito chips and ranch dressing. Now it's all I've been thinking about!!! We sometimes joke as a staff "Hey, remember that really good restaurant TGIFridays?" All we really have as far as places like that is a restaurant in Basel called Papa Joe's. It's good but nothing like Chili's or TGIFriday's or Applebee's. Funny...I never thought I'd really miss those places but right now I'm craving them!
