First of all, I want to thank all of you who sent me birthday wishes yesterday. It really made my day! It is so hard to be away from my friends and family on a day like my b/day! Second, I wanted to share w/you all a/b my birthday party on Wednesday.
To begin with, I had thought we were all going to go over to my director, Diana's house, for dinner on Saturday night. So when Catharine came to me on Wed afternoon and told me I had to go into Lorrach to sign some papers for something to do w/school, I had NO idea what was up. We took the train into Lorrach w/Anne and the three of us walked around several blocks trying to find the town hall. Catharine had told me she forgot where it was and I remember feeling extremely hungry and tired and just wanting to sign whatever needed to be signed and go home! So we came upon this Afghani restaurant that I had mentioned I wanted to try a few weeks ago. Catharine said she was going in to ask for directions to the town hall and left Anne and I outside. I mentioned to Anne that I was tired and hungry and I hoped we could get moving soon and Anne was just like "Uh huh..me too." Catharine came back outside and said "Can ya'll come inside with me because I'm kind of scared to go by myself. I don't know if they will speak to me in German or Afghan" which made me think "What kind of place is this?!?!" So we walked inside and there sitting at a huge table was the entire staff of RIA!!! They started singing Happy Birthday to me and I was completely shocked!!!! Honestly, when we first walked in I spotted Diana and thought "Oh look Diana decided to come and eat here.." DUH ALLISON! It was a great party and after we ate we went back to Catharine's, Erika's, and Andrea's place for cake. Then me, Catharine, Anne, Andrea, & Erika had a little dance party when everyone was gone! haha. We had SO much fun just goofing off and being silly! On Thursday my small group from church threw me a small party as well which was so great.
By the way, Afghani food is really good! Kind of like a toss up between middle eastern and indian food! YUM! I am posting another slide show w/pics from my b/day that should be up sometime today. Enjoy!
Love, Allison
